Happy October! We’re officially in Spooky Season!
In preparation for this post, I went ahead and downloaded all of my transactions for this month from all of my credit cards as well as my bank accounts to piece together my spending.
This is the first month in well over a year where I actually download my transactions at the end of the month instead of many months later when I don’t even remember what certain transactions were for!
I think I’m going to start downloading my transactions on a monthly basis. I really want an app to make things easy on myself…but I also don’t want to share my financial data with companies that will sell it. I’ll keep my eyes out for something that might be a good fit for me. If you have any recommendations, please leave me a comment to let me know.
I knew my spending would be higher than usual due to all of the eating out and the gifts. I also had some unplanned expenses, like the car and health expenses. I’m glad I have sinking funds for these things.
I color coded it so that all the blue transactions were necessary living expenses and all the purple categories were enjoyable.
Except…food includes groceries and eating out, but it also has any boba tea and deserts that I felt like getting randomly. It’s hard for me to label these things, since they’re things I eat or drink so I put them with food…but they are also enjoyable so I feel like they should go in Enjoyment.
Housing includes utilities.
Anyway, September was a great month! On to October!
