Don’t be afraid to change your mind and your direction. Regardless of how well you planned something and how much progress you’ve made, if you think something else is better for you, pursue that.
I’m not afraid to change my mind.
I never have been, thankfully.
The one thing I don’t change my mind on is investing because I know that money buys you options and freedom.
My Course
I’ve been pretty set on taking a year off in 2026.
I started throwing large amounts of cash into my 457b so that I can use that for my year off.
In reality, I likely only need around 25k to have a year off in Taiwan. However, I was planning on having 40k in that account.
I already have almost 23k in there and I’m already rethinking putting so much in there.
I’ve been looking at my house recently and there’s things I want to fix! So I decided to contribute less and spend about 3-5k fixing things that bother me around my house.
I really enjoy spending time here, but when I see literal cracks in the walls I get anxious and immediately want to sell!
I have to remind myself that it’s fixable and as long as I’m otherwise happy here, it’s worth spending the money if it’ll add to my happiness.
So, I reduced my contributions and will spend money on fixing my house!
I still want to take the year off so I’m not going to make any major renovations since I want to be here to enjoy them.
